“The whole mood to Broadway, kind of lends this feeling of artistic pursuits in a weird way, even the coffee shops. We’ve both worked for big corporations before and it is such a difference in working for something locally owned and community based. It’s amazing.”
Meet Maia and Cassie Stark. Maia is the Exhibitions and Education Coordinator at the Saskatchewan Craft Council and Cassie is a sales associate at Broadway Shoe Repair. After spending an afternoon on Broadway, you may recollect seeing a familiar face more than once. Don’t worry, as Maia and Cassie are identical twins. The Starks’ love for Broadway dates back to attending the Fringe festival as kids and shows at Amigos as teenagers. Describing Broadway as a very artistically ambitious atmosphere, Maia and Cassie have embraced the district’s enthusiasm of arts and culture. Maia is an artist of many talents, specializing in painting and drawing, while Cassie is an artist in her own right, as she is currently working on her first novel. They are the proud founders of the Saskatoon based illustration and design company, Bad Mood Design. These days when they aren’t installing art exhibits or selling you your favourite new pair of Blundstones, you can find them at grabbing a pint Yard and Flagon or picking up a loaf of bread from Christies.
