Reconciliation on Broadway: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Broadway is Saskatoon’s hub for small, independent, and local businesses. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (aka Orange Shirt Day) serves as an opportunity for the business community to not only engage in meaningful allyship on September 30th, but to examine its role in reconciliation throughout the year.

What we now call Broadway has always been part of a well-travelled corridor of commerce and connection for Indigenous peoples. This lineage is significant to the Broadway we know and love today. There is enormous potential for Broadway businesses, located in a city with a deep Indigenous heritage, to actively address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #92, which challenges the corporate sector to advance economic reconciliation and educate their teams.

On September 30th 2026, Broadway’s local business community should feature this important day by leveraging their storefronts as safe, educational spaces, signalling solidarity with residential school survivors, and reinforcing the vital message that Every Child Matters within the community and across Saskatoon.
