Hey everybody! My name is Craig Silliphant and this is a takeover of the Broadway YXE Instagram. I do it every second Friday to talk about your awesome choices for dining, drinking, culture, and some of the cool stores on Broadway.
I don’t remember the first time I was at Amigos, but I can tell you that I would have been beardless and baby-faced (they opened in 1988). I’ve been going there for food, drinks, and music as far back as I can remember.
When we started having kids, we didn’t shy away from Amigos, we doubled down. Most people take their kids to chain restaurants where they can have a beer while the kids can be loud without disturbing anyone. Amigos is the answer to this sad conundrum. Why eat freeze-dried food in a generic environment when you can have great food, mostly made from scratch, in one of the most chill rooms in town? And they have a sweet deck! My kids are growing up at Amigos and I love it.
Amigos is most accurately described as Tex Mex, but you can get other fares like burgers or wings. And of course, burritos, chimichangas, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and more. Don’t forget their famous rice and black beans. There are too many things to name, but here are some of our favourite things on the menu.
Jenny usually goes with a burrito. If I’m in the mood for Tex Mex, I go with a burrito or chimichanga. I also order the steak sandwich with their amazing fries. They have one of the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had, smothered in that Moonshine BBQ sauce (they’re also selling the sauces now!). Sometimes we’ll share the nachos too. And of course, you can wash that down with some adult beverages from a great beer and wine selection, or drink specials like margaritas. They’ve got a great kids’ menu: Luke loves the kids’ hotdog and fries and Imogen will either tuck into a cheese quesadilla, beans, or rice and cheese.
